Abstract
In this thesis I report about the design of the Compton spectrometer and the reconstruction method which is needed to obtain the spectrum of high uence X-ray sources. In order to do so, I discuss the theory which is needed throughout the research in chapter 2. In chapter 3 the design of the Compton spectrometer is discussed. How the simulations were used to study and quantify the individual processes which modify the X-ray spectrum in the Compton spectrometer is discussed in chapter 4. Chapter 5 describes in detail how I developed the reconstruction algorithm and what information was required for that. Chapter 6 contains the results of measurements of the spectrum of a high fluence medical X-ray source in the energy range 20-200keV using the Compton spectrometer. Also the measured attenuation coeffcients of different samples in the energy range of 20-180keV are shown. The thesis concludes with recommendations for future development of the Compton spectrometer in chapter 7.
